Computer Viruses
A computer virus is basically a form of software that, when installed, changes a few computer settings and installs its own personal code into those settings. When this infection succeeds in successfully changing a few settings, it is said to be infected with a virus. Viruses are very common, and many different types of viruses are in circulation.
Any computer system can become infected with a virus when a computer user visits a site which contains a file or attachment which has been infected with a virus. This can be through email attachments and files downloaded from the internet. It could also be because a Trojan virus has been downloaded accidentally, or because a rogue software application has installed itself on your PC. Once a virus has been installed onto your computer, it will spread throughout your system through the use of file copying programs, or via email attachments. The infection will then change the settings on your computer from time to time, and the virus will then send and receive emails.
